Once our building is set up on your property and you are completely satisfied with the purchase, it’s not really our business what goes on in there. However, sometimes the design process brings up some interesting requests, that beg the question: what will you use our buildings for?

Sure, most just need a tool shed, or a metal carport for the hail to ping off of instead of your workhorse truck. Some need something a little more special: a man cave or she-shed, or a massive barn for all the farm’s equipment. We see a hundred people every year looking for a tiny home: a sweet little log cabin or Cape Cod they can insulate and run electrical wiring through.

Others, however, need something unique. We live for those stories. A lofted A-frame barn with extra loft space, multiple dormers on the roof, and ventilation windows high up all around the walls makes for an impressive aviary. Put shelving all around and add a few cat trees, and your feline friends can run and jump all day without sacrificing the furniture in the den.

The pandemic put a lot of people to work at home, which not all households were ready for. We’ve seen people outfit a simple shed with lighting, AC, and Zoom-ready backdrops for the perfect home office. Others took the opportunity of extra time at home to rediscover passion projects, and turn our garages into amazing workshops for woodcraft, painting, and so much more.

If you expect to use the space for reading or other relaxing activities, consider hanging a porch swing in the center instead. Cabins with White Pine Finished Interior

As you tour our lot full of sample buildings, they might feel a little bare. These buildings arrive on our lot with the studs visible, both to allow for any interior finishing you might want and to highlight the structural quality of our builds.

We can recommend top-tier services to help finish out any cabin, but Scenic View buildings in particular come with the option of a white pine finish. White pine is a gorgeous finishing material for the perfect combination of rustic and natural, and spacious and airy. Its light coloration helps expand the area, and white pine has a golden, honeyed look when sunlight hits it through your windows.

That makes this finish an ideal interior, opening the space and upgrading the feel with an understated but lovely look. If you choose a Scenic View building, be sure to take advantage of this finished interior option!

Western and Garden Sheds

Ever wanted to experience an old-timey saloon in your backyard? Scenic View’s Western sheds are a popular option, for enthusiasts and general interest alike.

Western sheds offer all of the same features as the other cabins and sheds available at Buildings Plus: reliable construction, custom options, and competitive pricing. What really makes them shine is that front face with the recognizably Old West design. Neighbors might think you pulled the structure right off of an 1800’s street and placed it in your backyard. After that, the possibilities are endless; of course, we can’t help but recommend that you deck it out with lights and a bar for drinks with friends on summer nights.

Of course if you’d prefer, garden sheds are a versatile option. The standard build comes with a pergola over the porch, perfect for climbing vines and hanging plants. The animals that help out around your household deserve nice living quarters in return. Scenic View offers structures designed to provide just that, without breaking the bank.

The run-in horse barns in particular compliment our Western sheds well, with ornate latches on the Dutch doors and a 5’ kick board, plus options for a tack room. The chicken coops are similarly nice digs, complete with cozy nesting boxes and plenty of space for a growing flock. They also have doors leading to an optional chicken run.

The dog kennels are excellent accommodations for man’s best friend. Heavy duty welded wire, chain, or tartar panels all keep your hound around without shutting him inside, while the spacious interiors give him plenty of room to ride out inclement weather or bed down for the night. These kennels are attractive and can be made to match your house.

The birds seem to be singing a cheerier tune these past couple weeks, indicating that spring–and spring cleaning season–is on its way. When you hear “spring cleaning,” you may think of tedious sweeping and going through the same old bins that you know you’re going to stuff right back into a closet anyway. At a small, family-run business that provides extensive free consultations for every customer it sees, sometimes the waiting room can get a little backed up. When we were starting out, that waiting room was just a couple of chairs pushed up against the wall. To be honest, those chairs are still there; but we’ve made some upgrades.

When you stop by, feel free to make some coffee! We’ve got a Keurig always running hot, and cream and sugar if you take it that way. On cold winter mornings, it’s a simple pleasure to take a load off in those aforementioned chairs, with steam rising off a fresh cup of joe and the space heater on at your feet.

If you’re not a coffee person, or already had a pot this morning, we now have something new to offer starting in the next few days.

Courtesy of Kraken Krust, try a sample bite of some delicious seasonal breads for sale in the main office. Some typical options are pumpkin bread, banana bread, and zucchini bread; all specialities and personal favorites of our local baker.

Each has been baked with love and a proprietary recipe, and the cute little stickers closing each loaf’s bag is a testament to the care that goes into this bread. They come from a home kitchen, but a professional baking environment with hygiene regulation and as consistent a result as possible.

Whether you take home a perfectly moist loaf of banana bread for breakfasts or just have a few bites of heavenly spiced pumpkin bread with coffee, we truly hope you enjoy the time spent in our office. If a wait is ever necessary during your visit, it will be a cozily warm one with tasty treats available to pass the time quickly. See you there soon!

With winter now officially in full force, a new year rolls around (with new buildings rolling in behind). You’ll notice a few things have been differently lately, both at our lot and around Clarksville.

This weekend, for example, brings the third snowstorm of the season. Blankets of fresh snow and treacherous driving conditions make us want to bundle up inside, huddled around the fireplace or under comfy throws on the couch.

With the leaves gone from the trees, everything looks a little colder and barer. Our lot is not immune to this change, and you may notice a lot of empty spaces where buildings once were.

There’s no need to fret! January is our month to sell off the sample buildings we display year-round. With those sheds, garages, barns, and carports at the homes of their lucky new owners, we have plenty of room for the new year’s inventory.

That means we have an entire new selection of buildings for you to tour on your next visit to the lot. Many will be the same models we offer perennially—albeit in different styles and colors—but sometimes a new year brings exciting, entirely new models offered by our partners.

Whether you drop by now—when we look a bit empty—or later, when our stock is replenished; know that we still have the capability to design the exact building you’re looking for, and can have it built and shipped to your home within weeks. The only difference for right now is that tours may have a few less direct examples for reference, and there aren’t as many options for immediate purchase as there may be in a month.

This is an exciting time of year for us, and I hope you enjoy all the new stock we are sure to see on our lot very soon. It’s a treat to see each building unloaded, as well; Tennessee Steel is efficient and reliable, but Bieler’s folks manage so much so quickly with manpower alone.

From the first lean-to to modern high-rises, little matters more to building owners than keeping out the weather. Weather protection is a direct result of build quality. If a construction project was rushed, or used cheap materials, or skipped steps in treatment… well, you’re probably not adequately protected from rain, much less the tougher weather Clarksville can get.

We’ve had a lot of stormy days in Clarksville lately, so by now you’ll know if your building is weather-protected. Have you seen stains on the corners of your ceilings? Damp basements, leaky attics, or condensation on windowsills are all bad signs, too. They can even lead to mold or rotting wood! Unfortunately, the only real weather protection you can get after construction are band-aid processes, to shore up warped foundation or insulate unprotected windows.

The last year or so has been a wild ride, hasn’t it? I don’t know anyone who has just continued with their same-old, same-old during this time. We’ve all had travel cancelled, or lost jobs, or spent long periods locked down away from family. The silver lining here is that many of us have also had an opportunity, amidst all the turmoil, to start anew. That’s exactly the sort of attitude we at Buildings Plus are running with now.

I, for example, have moved residences (twice) and managed to be among the mass layoffs at the same workplace (twice…) in the span of a year. Not bad, right? Not bad at all, because now I get to rejoin my family in Clarksville and work from home. For me, that means sitting with my laptop beside the river, while the Cumberland floats peacefully by.

Clarksville is a wonderful community, and rapidly expanding to welcome all sorts of newcomers. Restaurants are popping up down the street, and there’s a new sort of bustle. For those of us who have been here for awhile, it’s all good news. The world is becoming digital at a much faster pace now, too—raise your hand, anyone who took a Zoom call this past year? It’s time to bring Buildings Plus into the present, with platforms that allow you to connect with us when and where you need, rather than strictly during open hours at the lot.

There are a lot of changes coming—just look at our nice new website, though still in progress—but we will forever remain the same Buildings Plus that you have relied on for over a decade to provide quality and affordable sheds, garages, and much more. You’ll still see Moon around, and the same craftsmanship and dedication you have come to expect. We think you’ll like the updates just as much, and can’t wait to share it all with you. Stay tuned!
